What do you think about Foshan as a location for a company like ANDRITZ?

Foshan is a very good location for us. The PRD is the biggest industrial agglomeration and the biggest agglomeration of people on the planet, so it is a very attractive area. There are fantastic logistics, very good networks of partners and suppliers. People here are very business minded, I think Guangdong is the province with a huge source of entrepreneurs of all sizes and that is something that you can feel here, the spirit of the province. There is really an entrepreneurial approach here. People want to develop themselves and they want to develop their businesses. It is very inspirational.

One thing that is particularly good here, is the business mindset of the government. This is something very different if you compare with the north of China, with Beijing, or also in Shanghai area - which is at least more business minded than Beijing - but here I have found that the government is very hands-on, very practical, no red-tape, very helpful and supportive. That is very important because in order to prosper and in order to grow, we need quick decisions, weneed a government which is helpful in all things we need to do. Another good thing, which is also very important for the economic wellbeing of a company, is that salaries are not on a level comparable with Beijing and Shanghai. I will not say that they are low - they are surely on a level higher than many other places - but they are on a reasonable level. And you can find, due to the proximity with Guangzhou, reasonable level. And you can find, due to the proximity with Guangzhou, a lot of good talents. This is outstanding here in Foshan.

How would you describe Foshan’s investment environment to a potential investor.

I would say that here in Foshan you have a fantastic infrastructure, you can find all levels of education, what ever you need; engineers, people for accounting and so on. Not only can you tap the working market of Foshan, but also of Guangzhou. There is a good support from the government, which is helpful in reaching out to enterprises. Specifically for mid-size foreign companies, they will find a business environment where they count and where they are heard. They will have partners in the government, in related functions, talking to them.
